County Sheriffs of Colorado is proud to present two online training programs -
the Basic Detentions Academy and Using DNA as Evidence.

To help you get the most out of this training, view a video about the CSOC online course and learning

The Basic Detentions Academy is designed for beginning or untrained detentions officers, experienced detentions officers who are looking for a refresher or yearly in-service, and detentions command staff and supervisors who are interested in specific modules such as the Legal module. This training program was developed with the assistance of multiple Sheriffs Offices, including Jefferson, Adams, Larimer, Washington, Weld, Otero and Summit. The course is divided into eight modules.

  • Modules 1-2 instruct on intake procedures for the jail.
  • Modules 3-6 instruct on ongoing daily operations within the jail.
  • Module 7 addresses transport issues and release procedures.
  • Module 8 addresses legal issues relating to detentions operations.

Using DNA as Evidence is designed for street law enforcement officers, investigators, supervisors, crime scene investigators and evidence technicians.   The course has two modules. In module one the student will learn basic science about DNA.  Module two teaches proper procedures for collection, preservation, and presentation of DNA evidence.

Both courses use Knowledge Factor’s patented online learning process called Confidence-Based Learning™ (CBL). CBL is a self-paced approach to learning that quickly builds your knowledge and retention by customizing your learning path and by building confidence in your knowledge. Through a single-step process, the CBL System™ measures both knowledge and confidence, then categorizes your results from each question into one of four categories - mastery, doubt, uninformed, and misinformed. The CBL process then fills your knowledge and confidence gaps to help you quickly reach a state of mastery.

The student can learn and master the material anytime and anywhere an Internet connection exists.
